Lakewood Summer Arts Faire

East Dallas' Family Friendly Arts Faire

About Us
Lakewood Summer Arts Faire (LSAF) was formed as a mission of Lakewood United Methodist Church in 2004.  Every year LSAF brings together leading local artists and the East Dallas community in a family-friendly environment where patrons can view, enjoy and purchase fine art, fine jewelry and fine crafts.  Each of the last four years we have had over thirty-five artists, many well-known in the Dallas arts community, and some showing their work to the public for the first time.  All proceeds from Lakewood Summer Arts Faire support charities in the Dallas community.  Some of the organizations that have benefitted from LSAF include The Lakewood Firehouse After School Program, Inc. and Lakewood Relief Fund, Inc. (temporary Hurricane Katrina shelter).

Lakewood Summer Arts Faire, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation.  Contributions are tax-deductable.

WHAT IS THE FIREHOUSE PROGRAM?

Lakewood Firehouse After School Programs, Inc. is a 501(C)3 non-profit corporation that provides after school tutoring for 2nd and 3rd grade students from Lakewood Elementary School (DISD) at no cost to the student.  At the beginning of each school year, teachers recommend students for placement based on academic and socio-economic needs.  Volunteers give of their time and energy to provide snacks, tutoring and recreation to help the students grow academically and socially as much as possible.  The program runs four days a week from 3:00pm to 5:00pm and students are brought to Lakewood UMC by church van and dropped off at home if necessary.  For more information, volunteer or donation opportunities, contact Laura Rothe at 214-823-9623.

About the name:
The name is derived from the original location of the program.  It started in what was a Dallas Fire Department station located at the corner of Palo Pinto and Abrams.  The station or "firehouse" was abandoned by DFD and eventually purchased by Lakewood UMC.  The building was used for over 20 years for various programs until it was removed to make way for Lakewood UMC's new Family Life Center in 2002.  A small square of bricks from the firehouse can be found in the Ravert Memorial Garden patio area.
